Cantus Saimaa was a mixed choir from Lappeenranta, Finland. It was active in 1999-2008. There were about 10-15 singers in Cantus Saimaa. The choir was founded in the Autumn of 1999 with the help of Lappeenrannan Laulupäivät ry (lately Lappeenrannan kuoromusiikin tuki ry), Lappeenranta Music Secondary school and the South-Carelian Classical choir.
Cantus Saimaa has acted under administrative umbrella of South-Carelian Classical choir until September 2006. Starting from September 2006 the director of Cantus Saimaa was the founder of the choir, Toomas Kapten, the professor of choir and orchestra conducting. He is Director of Conducting department of Estonian Music Academy in Tallinn.
Cantus Saimaa got its independency by founding own choir -association in September 2006. Seppo Äikäs was a director of Cantus Saimaa until the end of 2007.
Most of the singers of Cantus Saimaa had music school background. Cantus Saimaa sang multidimensional, interesting, and demanding music. The repertoire of the choir included pieces from different music styles of different times.
Cantus Saimaa had performed succesfully in South-Carelia and abroad in its own concerts as well as in co-operation with different choirs and orchestras. The choir got "silver stamp" in 2003 and 2005 in Tampereen Sävel -choir contest in Tampere, Finland.
